With ink and paper abroad – Ars Terra artist workshop in Hannover

Artists from Brasil, Japan, Sweden  came to Hannover, the capital of Lower Saxony in the northern part of Germany for a fortnight, joining an international drawing workshop. They all jump into an adventure with unknown people in an unknown area, paying the fareprice and also a part of their yearly vacation. And they are busy with their profession, only interrupted by some small steps into museums and touristic trips.

It’s no competition, it’s only the hope to get some new contacts and fresh ideas. When they tell that it happened it will be the biggest success. – And they told me so.

Today  Kiyomi Kuriki from Japan, Sofi Hagman and Anna Karin Waara from Sweden,  Luiz Ge and Mauricio Piza from Brasil and Claudi von Rohr as a local artist from Hannover presented some of their results and the confirmation that they got fresh impressions and met new partners in their profession.

Kiyomi started with very colorful mixed media paper works and finished with a „colorful“ trip to dark sides of the days or souls. She invited me with this „face“ to enter the Japanese world of demons in fairy tales and manga stories (just to be seen in a great show in the Hamburg Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe) Kiyomi creats her artistic world out of the flow of dark and light (and some strong colors, which are missing here).

it looks like the daily weather forecast – Mauricio Piza

Mauricio Piza likes to go into signs of movement; sometimes realistic, sometimes more in the style of Cubism, Futurism or Suprematism. Although he is tied to his south american culture his spirit goes with the wind of internationality. Home is in the product of the spirit.

Anna is concentrating on movement not only by switching from big to small formates but also from figurative motivs to swinging colors. She is focused to observing. She is presenting the world in front of us.

observing what is passing by

What’s around us is not always moving, there is a lot of standing, waiting, looking – and we will feel the movement inside of us as a spectator, may be in the way of the Greek philosopher Platon.

The motiv of passing by, en passant or vorbeigehen is the actual subject of Claudi. She also is a reflector of the movements around us, of activity and leisure, of overlooking our small world.

The Ars Terra group, built by artists and art lovers, do not select the invited artist. The workshop is part of  a network and the partner groups, also inviting to similar workshops, send members or participants of their group abroad. The constellation of the artists groups are always unexpected. This year it was a group of concentrated and hard working members. The presented works let understand that their mind is quick and activ.

the vibration of Luiz Ge

Luiz is feeling vibrations of nature, life, politics and expectations are shaking everybody during these days. There are always eruptions, intrusions and sinkings in our societies. They build up a vibrating monster.

Sofi from Lund in Sweden tells the story of loosing controll or giving up controlling in a pictorial way; she is constructing signs with different associations. Her crossing are like signs of closing a way or finishing a wrapping with paper. But you also can read it as a mark on a ground with no meaning or a hidden secret. Sofi likes to let even finished situations stay open.
